update on tree planting this winter

Just a quick update on where we are with the forthcoming tree planting this winter.

The Moseley and Kings Heath Ward Committee have set aside £10,000 for planting street trees. This £10,000 will pay for about 30 trees to be planted this winter - this includes the cost of digging the holes for the trees.

Alot of work has already gone into choosing the locations - Natalie Higgins from Moseley in Bloom and myself have walked the streets looking for locations. Finding the right locations has involved ensuring no underground services will block the digging of the holes, plus looking for overhead telephone cables they will block the branches.

The present list of locations is below: Please note that there 73 locations on the list - locations that are not planted this year will be investigated next year, so there is still time to add locations to this list - I'm conciseness that there are still roads that we need to look at: eg Kingswood Road, St.Albans Road, Ascot Road, Binton Croft.

The selection of the tree species has been done by both Natalie Higgins and John Cutts who have chosen the trees based on the suitability of the size and aesthetics of the tree.

We intend to do some exploratory digs in the next few weeks to get a further understanding of what lies underneath the pavement of some of the roads where trees have never been planted ever - eg Bloomfield Road and Grange Road
I'd be interested to know if people are happy with the species of trees chosen.
