Consultation has now begun on possible Moseley CCTV

A public consultation exercise has now begun to find out whether local residents and traders would support the installation of a CCTV system in Moseley shopping centre. The consultation ends on 5th December.

For several years, the traders of Moseley shopping centre have been asking me about the possibility of installing a CCTV system. The traders have argued that it would reduce anti-social behaviour in the shopping centre, plus make their customers feel safer. As a result, I have managed, along with my two fellow Councillors, to persuade the Safer Birmingham Partnership to fund the installation of such a system at a total cost of £100,000.

This system is neither connected to the Project Champion cameras nor is its linked to any anti-terrorism funding.

This initial consultation is to find out if residents and traders support the principle of a CCTV system in the shopping centre. If the answer is “YES”, then there will be a follow-up consultation after the Christmas break about a finalised design. The £100,000 for these cameras is conditional on them being installed by 31st March 2011, hence the reason for the very short consultation.

There are three ways of giving the Council your views:

1. Complete the questionnaire online at www.birmingham.gov.uk/hallgreen

2. Pick up and drop off the questionnaire from:

Moseley Exchange (rear of Moseley Post Office)

Domestica (170 Alcester Road)

Prince of Wales pub (118 Alcester Road)

Kings Heath Library (4 High Street, Kings Heath)

Kings Heath Neighbourhood Office (Silver Street, Kings Heath)

Kings Heath Community Centre (Heathfield Road, Kings Heath)

3. Attend a drop-in session on

Wednesday 24th November, 3-8pm at Moseley Exchange (rear of Moseley Post Office)

Saturday 27th November, 10-3pm at Moseley Farmers Market

The results of the consultation and the recommended decision on whether or not to go to the second stage of consultation, will be announced at the Moseley and Kings Heath Ward Committee, 15th December at St Columba’s Church Hall, Chantry Road, Moseley at 7pm
