Kings Heath public toilets update

Just an update on where we are with replacing Kings Heath public toilets with a superloo.

Planning permission to replace the present toilets was granted on the 24th January 2008 - it was a 2 year temporary permission. After two years, the superloo has to be moved off the market square to a new location across the road - this fits in with the creation of the new Market Square proposals.

The order has now gone into JC Decaux for the unit to be built and delivered. It will arrive at the end of July.

Graffiti Art Festival, Kings Heath Park, 15th,16th March

A Graffiti Art Festival has been organised for Kings Heath Park on Saturday, Sunday 15th, 16th March - 12noon to 6pm.

The Festival is being jointly organised by Bishop Challoner School and In A City Arts, 21 York Road. The Festival is being funded from Community Chest Funds awarded by the Moseley and Kings Heath Ward Committee.

The Festival is part of a series of measures to move local teenagers from graffiti tagging, which upsets residents, to the legal form of graffiti art.

The tennis courts in Kings Heath Park will be filled with 75metres of 8foot high boards. The next door basketball court will have ramps for skateboarders and BMXers. There will also be food and music.

Professional graffiti artists will be on hand to show off their skills and advise younger teenage artists - young people who wish to participate will be able to come along through booking a place through the new ‘INACITY Arts’ Graffitti shop on York Road who will give them a time slot and will manage the Graffiti element of the day itself. Teenagers who are known to be taggers will not be allowed to use the paint facilites.

There will also be a marque in case of poor weather

If the event is a success, then funds will be made available for more during the Spring and Summer.

A full time managed legal graffiti zone at the rear of Kings Heath Baptist Church, Kings Heath High Street, is due to open mid-March

Proposed changes to traffic waiting restrictions in Moseley

The proposed changes to waiting restrictions in Moseley centre can be seen at http://www.martinmullaney.co.uk/images-transport/moseley-tro.pdf - I would be interested in any last minute comments. It is proposed to advertise these changes next Wednesday.

Points to the note:
1) the time notices on the top right hand side of the drawing are not very clear. What they say is "No waiting Mon to Fri 7.30am to 9.30am, 4.30pm to 6.45pm", "No loading 7.30pm to 9.30pm, 4.30pm to 6.45pm", "Parking restricted to 1 hour, Mon to Fri 9.30am to 4.30pm"

2) this proposal will unify waiting restriction times and the days they occur across the centre of Moseley, which presently vary depending on what year the restriction was introduced.

3) Oxford Road will now have all day parking on one side - on the southside from St Marys Row to Ascot Road, on the northside from Ascot Road to School Road

4) Alcester Road will now have day time parking on the west side, south of the St Marys Row junction. It had been removed since there is a pinch point at the Tudor Road junction which caused tailbacks when two lorries tried to pass each other in opposite directions.

5) parking will now be allowed in front of O'Neil's pub on Alcester Road

6) there will now be all day parking on the northside of Woodbridge Road across the railway bridge.

update on various gating schemes in Moseley and Kings Heath

Below are updates on various gating schemes in Moseley and kings Heath. These need to erected before the end of March, otherwise the money dissappears.

All these alleyways are owned by nobody. However, the properties that back on the alleyways have access rights. If one person objects to the erection of a gate then no gate can be erected

28/30 Bank Street Properties have been leafleted twice, owner of one of the properties is concerned over reduction in passageway width. A series of addresses have been provided where we have previously gated, and await their response.

22 Sandford Road Gates ordered, we envisage erection within 2-3 weeks.

Belle Walk/Yardley Wood Road. Gates ordered, completion prior to 31/03/08.

Farqhuar/Tudor/Leighton RoadResponse to letters has been relatively low. Various residents have expressed a wish to have alternative gate styles. We will give this one more attempt, but I feel that their are too many opposing views and this scheme won't happen.

209 Grange Road This was knocked back when we tried some three years ago, and to date response has not been good, we will try once more.

133 Highbury Road Gate ordered, fitting imminent.

1 Fenter Close We have the majority of agreements in place, but not the property immediately next to the proposed gate position. We will pursue this, and don't envisage a problem with carrying this forward.

Woolworths, Kings Heath High Street We've had a positive response from the managers of both Woolworths and the shop next door.(New Look). Unfortunately both are national chain stores, and as a result have their own property managers at their respective Head Offices. I have written again, stressing the urgency of a decision, and we will follow this up with a site visit.

65/67 Church Road We are still trying to find out ownership of the land.
