Clearing of Alleyways of Moseley and Kings Heath Ward

I've just had a meeting with Wayne Chivers, who looks after the Xtra Service Team. The objective of the meeting was to find out why several alleyways had not been cleared of their flytipped rubbish during their visit last week - the alleyways I was particulared interested in were the Queenswood Road/Woodstock Road block and several in the Farqhuar Road/Leighton Road/Tudor Road block.

The clearing out of these alleyways will be done by another crew called, You Are You City, who specialise in removing large bulky rubbish including rubble. They visit each Ward every 6 months. The Xtra Service Team visit each Ward every five weeks.

The You Are Your City team are visiting Moseley and Kings Heath Ward on a four week period starting 28th May - finishing 22nd June.

Can you ensure that any flytipped rubbish in alleyways that needs clearing is reported. If you send via you local Councillor, ie me, it gets priorty. I don't set the rules, but apparently Councillors get the priority. Photographs of the rubbish would be useful.

The Xtra Service Team will be coming to Moseley and kings Heath Ward on the week starting 11th June. I hope to have in the next few days photos of what the Xtra Service Team did in this Ward during their visit last week

Moor Green Lane pavement reconstruction

Moor Green Lane pavement is being reconstructed in the next few weeks from its junction with Alcester Road down to the start of the playing fields.

I was hoping to get an 'Amesbury Road' type reconstruction - namely fully reslabbed with heritage slabs and kerbstones. However, this is not going to happen for the following reasons:
1) only one side of the road is in a Conservation Area
2) the Amesbury Road reconstruction turned out to be far more expensive than they originally expected and they don't have the budget to do this on Moor Green Lane

However, I have negotiated a way forward, which is as follows:
a) the southside of Moor Green Lane, which is not in the Conservation Area, will have a tarmaced pavement. All the orginal Edwardian granite and 1930's concrete agregate kerbstone will reused.
b) on the northside which runs alongside the Conservation Area, we will re-slab, except the part in front of the new developement on the former Reddings playing fields. As many of the original slabs will be re-used, although experience from Amesbury Road has shown that many will have hair-line cracks which will cause them to break when being re-fitted. Where we can't re-used the original slabs, modern white slabs will be used. All original kerbstones will be re-used.
c) there will be opportunites to plant new trees - the tree pits will be dug out at a later stage.

Councillor update on Planning Applications of importance in Moseley & Kings Heath Ward – Sunday 6th May 2007

Below is my own personal list of planning applications that I am keeping an eye on, due to residents raising concerns with me or the applications clearly being contentious.

Drawings and further details on each of these planning application is available on-line at
http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=67548&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=12189

Observations
The application for the rebuilt Texaco garage/Somerfield Supermarket at the corner of Alcester road and Park Hill was refused. The application was clearly unacceptable and I was surprised that Somerfield even submitted the design.

The monstrosity at the corner of School Road and Oxford Road (37 Oxford Road) has also been refused. The applicants will most likely appeal, so it may take some time to get the alterations removed. In the meantime I’m going to try and get the Council to take legal action against the owner for building the boundary wall on Council owned land.

Moseley Golf Club has put a planning application in to convert the vacated parts of Billesley Lane allotments into a practice area. See my YouTube video for more details on this -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYInZrLH6q8

There are a number of planning applications from public houses for external smoking areas – most controversial is from the Elizabeth of York pub in Moseley where they want to have a drinking area on the pavement – I’ve objected to this, since the pavement is already narrow here.

An application has gone in to convert 40 Woodbridge Road into a restaurant – this is the retail unit next to the newsagents by the zebra crossing. This will be a test of Moseley’s restriction on change of use to non-retail policy.

The planning applications
